Every time you take a breath, you inhale a variety of particles that are suspended in the air. The smaller the particle, the more damage it can do. PM2.5 refers to particles measuring 2.5 micrometers in diameter or smaller – roughly 25 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair.
While not everyone will experience immediate symptoms when breathing in polluted air (children and seniors tend to be the most affected) everyone runs the risk of long-term effects from prolonged exposure.
